2 Ways to secure both DNS and DHCP

2 Ways to (Secure) DNS

One way to secure DNS is by monitoring the network access. This is where you need to keep a close eye on the large amounts of traffic that flows through, or check for any anomalies, like those that are at a high rate that come from one location at ab high rate with only one kind of traffic.

Another way to secure DNS is to close all of your unused ports on your firewall. Firewalls are the best way to guard servers from the outside attacks. Ways to stop this attack would be to use the (UDP), User datagram Protocol, known as port 53 that lets us communicate. You should open up port 53 on your firewalls when it is located between.

  • DNS servers that transfer through zones.
  • DNS servers that delegate the zones and when the server is authorized for that actual zone.
  • For the DNS clients and also the client servers.
  • For the DNS forwarders or servers which are higher than the namespace hierarchy in the DNS.

  • 2 Ways to (Secure) DHCP

DHCP has several problems with security and this can come from, a person that uses your network, and is not allowed or needed to give their information to receive a lease. Another reason would be because; users that are malicious have a personal access to the servers network, will cause a service problem on the server. Ways to stop this are as follows:

  • Make sure that no unauthorized people have any access that is cabled or WiFi to the network.
  • Enable the audit for logging all of the severs. Check them on the regular, and monitor the audit closely if the server has a large amount of permissions for the leases that are for the clients.
